Illustrator To SMP Specialist

The transition from illustrator to Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) specialist has given me a unique perspective on hair loss - one that makes me see potential transformations everywhere I go. Whether I'm at the supermarket or walking the dog, I notice people who could benefit from SMP, though I've learned that approaching this sensitive topic requires delicacy and understanding.

Enthusiasm, Timing And Sensitivity

When Crown & Follicle first launched, my enthusiasm led me to reach out to friends who I thought might benefit from the procedure. However, I quickly realised that hair loss remains a deeply personal subject - one that many aren't ready to discuss unless they've already confronted it themselves. Some messages went unanswered, teaching me valuable lessons about timing and sensitivity.

Working alongside Mike Guarriello, our Company Director, has shown me the importance of letting clients come to their own decisions. His approach to client relationships has brought many of our earliest success stories through our doors. The most rewarding feedback often comes from those who say, "I wish I'd done this sooner" - especially after their first session.

Artistic Similarities

My background in illustration, particularly working with black ink and cross-hatching, has surprisingly translated well into SMP work. The techniques of creating shade and density through careful spacing are remarkably similar, though now I'm working on a very different kind of canvas. While I still enjoy drawing as a hobby, my passion has fully shifted to perfecting the art of SMP.

I've made it a principle never to rush treatments or compromise on quality. The magic truly happens during the second and final sessions, when clients see their transformation complete. There's nothing quite like watching someone leave our studio with renewed confidence and a perfectly natural-looking result. I always encourage clients to live with their new look for a few weeks and return if they want any adjustments - it's part of our commitment to ensuring complete satisfaction.

Understanding And Empathy

Having experienced hair loss myself, I understand the emotional journey our clients are on. Every person who walks through our door receives the same level of care and attention. While I may have to stop myself from staring at potential clients in public these days, my desire to help comes from a genuine place of understanding and empathy.

Changing Lives

In this field, there's always room to learn and improve, and that's exactly what drives me forward. SMP isn't just a job - it's a calling that combines artistic skill with the ability to truly change lives. And that's something worth being passionate about.
